St. Leonard's ChurchSt. Leonard’s Church and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Tour

Enjoy five centuries of art and handicraft in Manchester’s finest medieval church, which was restored by Edgar Wood and beautified by Arts & Crafts designers. You will find outstanding medieval brasses, the famous Flodden Window, medieval rood screen and misericords, Jacobean and Georgian craftsmanship and fine examples of Victorian and twentieth century craft work. There is a excellent sequence of stained glass windows by artists from the mid-nineteenth to the mid twentieth centuries.

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School is a short walk away (0.2 miles). It was built in the late 1500s and is believed to be the oldest surviving Queen Elizabethan Grammar School building. It was Edgar Wood’s childhood school and you can even see his graffiti on the walls!

St. Leonard’s Church Access and Facilities – Car parking is at St. Leonard’s Square, immediately adjacent the church, and at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. Most of St. Leonard’s Church and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School is accessible to wheelchairs. Toilets are available at the church and school but, unfortunately, there is no disabled toilet at the church.
