On Thursday 26th February Middleton Archaeological Society held their regular monthly event at the Sessions Room at the Olde Boar’s Head. They hosted Ruth Nugent from the University of Chester. Ruth’s talk was entitled “Dead at Chester Cathedral: the burials and commemorations at the cathedral”. The talk was extremely interesting and very well presented. Ruth covered pitfalls (excuse the pun) of indoor burials and the extraordinary randomness of burials in relation to their memorials. She also covered the who’s who of this type of burial and the costs involved (gets more expensive towards the east).
Following the talk MAS were presented with a cheque for £600 from the Rotary Club of Middleton following their recent grant application. These funds will be used to help with the running costs of their August / September excavation at St. Leonard’s.
